{"id":11181,"date":"2016-08-07T11:26:08","date_gmt":"2016-08-07T15:26:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/andrewbaseman.com\/blog\/?p=11181"},"modified":"2016-08-13T10:18:48","modified_gmt":"2016-08-13T14:18:48","slug":"making-do-in-dresden-germany","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/?p=11181","title":{"rendered":"Making-do in Dresden, Germany"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This past May\u00a0I traveled to Dresden, Germany, to see the world renowned ceramics collection at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.skd.museum\/en\/museums-institutions\/zwinger-with-semperbau\/porzellansammlung\/index.html\">Porzellansammlung<\/a> (Porcelain Collection) at the Zwinger, Dresden&#8217;s magnificent palace. Not only did I see the jaw-droppingly gorgeous ceramics, sumptuously displayed in various rooms and hallways of the palace, but I was given a private tour by\u00a0Heike Ulbricht, conservator of ceramics. Ms. Ulbricht was most\u00a0generous with her time, spending over 2 hours showing me early repairs sprinkled throughout the collection, and giving me a peek at pieces she and her colleagues were currently working on. Only about 10% of the collection is on view to the public so I was thrilled\u00a0to witness\u00a0the astonishing\u00a0collection of over 20,000 examples, kept cool in underground vaults below the
