So after years of vacillating, I am finally committing to giving an answer.<\/p>\n<p>This little teapot&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_22542.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"IMG_2254\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_22542.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I found this small globular teapot 5 years ago, and knew very little about it at the time. The dealer I purchased it from had no information regarding its origin or history, so it remains a bit of a mystery to me.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2257.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"IMG_2257\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2257.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"399\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2257.jpg\"><\/a>It is made of porcelain, measures 3-1\/2&#8243; high, 6-1\/2&#8243; wide and\u00a0appears to be mass produced. The simple Art Deco inspired\u00a0decoration of large and small navy blue dots help date the piece to the mid 1920&#8217;s -30&#8217;s. It reminds me of Czech pottery of the same period, so I am assuming it is from the same region.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_22551.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"IMG_2255\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_22551.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"292\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>No part of this poor teapot\u00a0has escaped damage, making it by far the most altered piece in my collection.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2258.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"IMG_2258\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2258.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"399\" height=\"344\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are 18 metal support staples, a replaced hand-hammered tin base, a large tin patch on one side, a mended chip on the lid grafted from another lid entirely, and a wire tether holding the lid in place.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_22561.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"IMG_2256\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_22561.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The \u00a0numerous metal staples (aka rivets) appear to be machine made and are reinforced with cement.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_22591.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4078\" title=\"IMG_2259\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_22591.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"310\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_22591.jpg 400w, http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_22591-300x232.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The original owner must have really cherished their teapot and made a great effort in trying to make it whole again.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2260.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4082\" title=\"IMG_2260\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2260.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2260.jpg 400w, http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2260-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If anyone has further information regarding the origins of this piece, please let me know.<\/p>\n<p>And if you ask me &#8220;What is your favorite antique with inventive repair?&#8221;\u00a0a year from now, I reserve the right to respond differently!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am asked &#8220;What is your favorite antique with inventive repair?&#8221; often by friends and colleagues.
