But how could I pass up a broken doll-in-a-can door stop?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_32492.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4229\" title=\"IMG_3249\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_32492.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"549\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_32492.jpg 400w, http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_32492-218x300.jpg 218w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When this fragile bisque doll lost its legs, it was submerged in cement and put in to a tin can, along with a metal wire handle covered in oil cloth.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_32501.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4504\" title=\"IMG_3250\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_32501.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"399\" height=\"523\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_32501.jpg 399w, http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_32501-228x300.jpg 228w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 399px) 100vw, 399px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Based on the popular Kewpie doll of the 1910&#8217;s and with a nod to Betty Boop, these inexpensive Japanese dolls with &#8220;googly&#8221; eyes were given out as carnival prizes.
