Luckily, one of the friends I was visiting was a pilot and simply brought it on board his flight to New York the next day. The triangular remains of the broken clay handle leaves a distinctive maker&#8217;s mark<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_3258.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1634\" title=\"IMG_3258\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_3258.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"399\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_3258.jpg 399w, http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_3258-249x300.jpg 249w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 399px) 100vw, 399px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It would have been awkward to lift this 18-1\/2&#8243; tall\u00a0jug with the absence of its handle, especially when full of wine.
