This baluster-shaped chocolate pot was made in China in the mid-1800&#8217;s but its form was based on German Meissen\u00a0porcelain of the same period, and was made for export to Europe and North America<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_21511.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3465\" title=\"IMG_2151\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_21511.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"449\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_21511.jpg 400w, http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_21511-267x300.jpg 267w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A skilled silversmith created a fanciful scallop edged silver spout to\u00a0replace the more simple original spout, which must have broken off soon after this 8&#8243; high\u00a0pot was made<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_21541.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3466\" title=\"IMG_2154\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_21541.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"399\" height=\"506\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_21541.jpg 399w, http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_21541-236x300.jpg 236w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 399px) 100vw, 399px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Other repairs and replacements which occurred during the next 170 years or so include metal rivets which hold the broken handle back in place; a 20th century plain white replacement lid decorated in blue enamel to match the original&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_21521.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3467\" title=\"IMG_2152\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_21521.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_21521.jpg 400w, http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_21521-266x300.jpg 266w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>and a chain attached from the top of the handle to a replaced knob made of composition and painted blue<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2153.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2342\" title=\"IMG_2153\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2153.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"399\" height=\"292\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2153.jpg 399w, http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_2153-300x219.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 399px) 100vw, 399px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This chocolate pot with similar form shows what the original spout and lid on my pot would have looked like<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/richardgould.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2343\" title=\"richardgould\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/richardgould.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"314\" height=\"417\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/richardgould.jpg 314w, http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/richardgould-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 314px) 100vw, 314px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Photo courtesy of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.richardgouldantiques.com\">Richard Gould Antiques<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For me, the more repair I see on one piece of porcelain the more I like it, and this fine chocolate pot with five separate repairs does not disappoint!
