{"id":53,"date":"2010-03-10T18:43:33","date_gmt":"2010-03-10T23:43:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/?p=53"},"modified":"2011-02-06T10:34:57","modified_gmt":"2011-02-06T15:34:57","slug":"chinese-clobbered-saucer-c-1700","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/?p=53","title":{"rendered":"Chinese clobbered saucer, c.1690"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This Chinese porcelain hexagonal shaped\u00a0saucer began life in the late 1600&#8217;s simply decorated with blue underglaze, but was later clobbered (painted over) in the mid-1700&#8217;s in more &#8220;attractive colors&#8221; to the taste of the day.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_6746.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5079\" title=\"IMG_6746\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_6746.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"412\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_6746.jpg 400w, http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_6746-291x300.jpg 291w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The original blue underglaze decoration was &#8220;improved upon&#8221; with the addition of arbitrarily painted red and green\u00a0overglaze, most likely in Amsterdam.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_6753.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5081\" title=\"IMG_6753\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_6753.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"420\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_6753.jpg 400w, http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_6753-285x300.jpg 285w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This small gem, which measures 4-1\/2&#8243; in diameter,\u00a0has 14 metal staples holding the once shattered saucer intact, more staples per square inch than any other example I own.
