{"id":6403,"date":"2012-09-15T17:07:45","date_gmt":"2012-09-15T21:07:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/andrewbaseman.com\/blog\/?p=6403"},"modified":"2012-09-15T17:07:45","modified_gmt":"2012-09-15T21:07:45","slug":"thai-buddha-amulet-c-1920","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/?p=6403","title":{"rendered":"Thai Buddha amulet, c.1920"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This small pottery amulet has an image in relief\u00a0of Somdej, a\u00a0Buddhist monk and son to King Rama II,\u00a0meditating on a coiled snake, and was found in a temple in Siam (Modern Thailand) in the first part of the 19th century. These are typically found snugly fitted into tiny metal frames, allowing the amulet to be worn by a worshiper. In this case, the metal frame broke off and the owner or a tinker came up with a fast and economical remedy by encasing the amulet in what looks like small scale chicken wire. Not the most attractive solution but I am sure the owner was most appreciative and happy just to be able to wear the amulet again.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0036.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6404\" title=\"IMG_0036\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0036.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"439\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0036.jpg 400w, http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0036-273x300.jpg 273w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Amulet measures nearly 2&#8243; long.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0037.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6405\" title=\"IMG_0037\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0037.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"399\" height=\"446\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0037.jpg 399w, http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0037-268x300.jpg 268w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 399px) 100vw, 399px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another amulet, with similar design and form, is housed in a more appropriate metal frame.
