{"id":8407,"date":"2014-03-15T18:39:32","date_gmt":"2014-03-15T22:39:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/andrewbaseman.com\/blog\/?p=8407"},"modified":"2014-03-17T09:17:58","modified_gmt":"2014-03-17T13:17:58","slug":"russian-gardner-cups-saucers-c-1900","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/?p=8407","title":{"rendered":"Russian Gardner cups &#038; saucers, c.1900"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To celebrate the conclusion of my work on Season 2 of The Americans, a television show on\u00a0the FX network\u00a0set in 1982\u00a0about a pair of Russian spies living as Americans in Washington, D.C.,\u00a0I am posting this pair of Russian tea cups and saucers. They were made by the Gardner factory at the turn of the 20th century and are decorated with gold leaves, and hand painted flowers in white medallions, set against a deep red ground. They are part of a larger tea set, many of which were exported to the Turkish Empire and Central Asia. The cups measure about 2&#8243; high, with an opening of 3-1\/4&#8243;, and the saucers have a diameter of 5-1\/4&#8243;. Both cups were broken and repaired by a china mender in the early to mid 1900s, after Sascha dropped the entire tea service while entertaining Anastasia and Vladimir.\u00a0\u043d\u0435\u0443\u043a\u043b\u044e\u0436\u0430\u044f \u0434\u0435\u0432\u043e\u0447\u043a\u0430!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_8226-Version-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8409\" alt=\"IMG_8226 - Version 2\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_8226-Version-2.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"357\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_8226-Version-2.jpg 400w, http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_8226-Version-2-300x267.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cup 1 (top) with gilt leaf decoration, has hand cut metal staples that still hold the two broken pieces tightly together.
