{"id":9710,"date":"2016-06-11T11:20:16","date_gmt":"2016-06-11T15:20:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/andrewbaseman.com\/blog\/?p=9710"},"modified":"2016-06-16T06:40:45","modified_gmt":"2016-06-16T10:40:45","slug":"the-kingman-tavern-museum-mystery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blog.andrewbaseman.com\/?p=9710","title":{"rendered":"The Kingman Tavern Museum mystery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the small hamlet of Cummington, Massachusetts, home of the esteemed ceramics gallery\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ferrincontemporary.com\">Ferrin Contemporary<\/a>, sits\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/cummingtonhistoricalcommission.weebly.com\/kingman-tavern-museum.html\">Kingman Tavern Museum<\/a>, a small historical museum overflowing with antiques of\u00a0local interest,\u00a0donated mainly by the town&#8217;s\u00a0residents. The collection includes a full scale replica of an early 1900s country store, miniature rooms by artist Alice Steele, and vintage clothes, tools, and household items. Among them is\u00a0a curious set of porcelain plates riddled with early staple repairs.<\/p>\n<p>On a shelf sitting alongside a handful of\u00a0innocuous-looking plates and tableware\u00a0are two\u00a0stacks of thick walled bowls and platters, each with pronounced staple repairs. The cobalt blue\u00a0stylized rabbit pattern is unfamiliar to me but appears to be American,\u00a0late\u00a019th century, and perhaps\u00a0restaurant china. No one associated with the museum seems to know anything about the set\u00a0or how they got there.
